Dr. Govind (http://www1.ccny.cuny.edu/prospective/science/biology/profiles/profile_govind.cfm), a professor running a fly genetics lab in City College's biology department, is looking for undergraduate and masters students interested in working on a biology project which incorporates mathematics and some programming. Seeking a Computer Science or Math major for College Credit to assist on a biology DNA sequencing project related to tumor development.
 
To work with various software packages, including Genome Analyzer Pipeline Software and the CASAVA Software.
The Genome Analyzer Pipeline Software is a set of utilities designed to perform a complete offline data analysis of a sequencing run. It is supplied as source code and scripts. The CASAVA Software package performs post-sequencing analysis of data from reads aligned to the reference genome by Pipeline.

Strong familiarity and experience with Linux required. Experience in Red Hat Linux variants preferred. High level knowledge of configuration files, XML files, make, makefiles, Python and perl scripting required. Interest in biology will be helpful.
