Put Every Bill in Congress on a Wiki
Obama likes to talk about transparency in government. If I had one suggestion to give him as to how he could further this goal, this would be it:
Put every bill going through congress on a wiki.
The benefits of this would be enormous.
- Every change made to a bill would show exactly which representative (or their aides) was responsible for writing the bill. So if earmarks or other pork is added to a bill you would know exactly who is responsible for it. The current process uses the same trademark techniques as sausage making.
- It would provide real time information to constituents allowing them to voice their opinion to their representatives. Currently many bill are passed before people can even get their hands on it to read. Through technologies like RSS feeds one could subscribe to any changes made to a bill or to portions of a bill.
