Using Zotero As A Code Snippet Repository

Zotero is a Firefox extension that allows you to collect bibliographic information from across the web in a quick and easy fashion. It’s by far the best tool I’ve found for the job.

However, I’m happy to say I’ve found another reason to love Zotero: Code snippets. Whether I’m programming in Excel, R, or C++ I’ve always struggled to find a good way to store code. What makes Zotero stand out for this job is two things. One, many code snippets come from prowling around forums and list serves and since Zotero lives within Firefox, it’s easy to copy the code and paste the code into Zotero. This can be done in a couple different ways. You can create a screen shot or you can copy the text and paste it into a note.

Two, Zotero has a great collection and tagging facility. This allows me to quickly find what I’m looking for.
