Public Service Vs Private Enterprise?

At college graduation speeches across the country this month, speakers implored graduates to pursue public service and noble causes. At Harvard alone, a staggering 14% of its seniors applied to the Teach for America program The Crimson reports.

While public service is great, isn’t what the world really needs are bright young minds developing the next generation of technologies, leading established companies, and starting their own businesses? At what point is public service a bad thing, or better put, too much of a good thing?
