While my school allows me to have free copies of SAS and SPSS, I’ve decided that I want to do my research using R, http://www.r-project.org/. The reason for this is that I love the ability to code my own functions, work in command line, and more importantly have access to thousands of packages to my life easier.

That said, I believe R has a greater learning curve than most other statistical software out there. However, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. For one, it forces me to actually know what I am doing rather than just press a few buttons. Not to say you can’t do that with R, but it certainly is not as easy.
